A comprehensive educational journey
Wellbeing
At Emmanuel Anglican College we seek to grow each student to become a person of character who is inspired by excellence and adaptability, whose life is modelled on the life of Jesus and who, through courage, creativity, compassion and citizenship, strives to create a better world. We are committed to ensuring every student is known, valued, cared for and respected, fostering a supportive and affirming environment for growth and learning.
Our wellbeing program focuses on equipping students with skills and attitudes that enhance mental health, support academic success and cultivate lifelong wellbeing. In the Primary years, the emphasis is on social and emotional learning, while in the Secondary years, the focus shifts to inclusion, student voice and leadership through a comprehensive pastoral care program.
Pastoral Care
In the Primary years, Classroom Teachers play a pivotal role in pastoral care, while in the Secondary years, this responsibility is led by Pastoral Care Teachers. These dedicated educators, guided by our wellbeing team, collaborate closely with families to provide a strong network of support for every student.
In Secondary school, students are assigned to a Pastoral Care group within one of the four College Houses. This structure creates a strong sense of belonging and community through regular pastoral care sessions, chapel services, sports and a wide array of leadership and peer support opportunities. Students are encouraged to actively participate in House activities, fostering personal growth and a sense of camaraderie.
House System
At Emmanuel Anglican College, students join one of four Houses: Brockington (blue), Purcival (green), Smith (red) and Walker (yellow). Named after significant figures in the College’s history, these Houses promote leadership, participation and community spirit. Students remain in the same House throughout their time at the College, with siblings grouped together to strengthen family connections within the College community. Staff members are also assigned to Houses, creating a shared sense of pride and unity.
Student Leadership
Leadership opportunities are a cornerstone of the Emmanuel Anglican College experience, allowing students to demonstrate initiative, contribute to the College’s development and grow as individuals. Leadership roles are available to both Primary and Secondary students, encouraging qualities like commitment, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
Formal leadership positions include:
- College Captains and Primary Captains: These students from Year 12 and Year 6 represent the student body and act as a liaison between students, staff and the wider school community. They are elected by their peers and teachers based on their leadership qualities, academic performance and commitment to the school’s values.
- Student Leaders of Arts and Culture, Community and Sustainability, Sports and Spirit, SRC President and Band Captains: Roles that allow Year 12 students to contribute to the leadership of the College in specific domains.
- House Captains and Primary House Captains: These students from Year 12 and Year 6 inspire participation and House spirit at sporting and cultural events.
- Student Representative Council (SRC): Students from Years 2 to 12 can be elected to represent their peers at regular SRC meetings, address school issues and coordinate fundraising initiatives.
Emmanuel Anglican College offers professional counselling services to support the mental health and wellbeing of our students. Our qualified counsellors provide a safe and confidential space for students to share their thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies and navigate challenges. Counselling is available for both Primary and Secondary students, ensuring comprehensive support throughout their educational journey.
Camps and Retreats
Camps and retreats are a vital part of the Emmanuel Anglican College experience, offering students opportunities for personal growth, resilience building and enhanced social and emotional capacity. Students from Years 6 to 12 participate in tailored programs designed to challenge, inspire and connect them with their peers and the natural world.
Primary Years: Camps focus on developing teamwork, confidence and outdoor skills through age appropriate activities in a supportive environment.
Secondary Years: Retreats and camps emphasise leadership development, self reflection and community building. Year 12 students participate in a dedicated retreat to help them prepare for their final year and life beyond school.
Indigenous Group
The Emmanuel Anglican College Indigenous Group celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This group provides a platform for students to engage with Indigenous culture through art, storytelling and community events. By fostering awareness and understanding, the group strengthens connections within the College community and promotes respect for Australia’s First Nations people. Students from both Primary and Secondary years are encouraged to participate and contribute to this vibrant and inclusive group.
Emmanuel Anglican College’s Therapy Dog

Amber
Amber, our much-loved therapy dog, plays an integral role in supporting student wellbeing across the College. Her presence provides comfort and companionship, helping students feel calm and connected.
Whether she is visiting classrooms, attending small group sessions or simply being a friendly presence around the campus, Amber’s impact on the emotional wellbeing of our students is invaluable.
