Learning Support

At Emmanuel Anglican College, we are committed to supporting students who require additional assistance to access learning and participate fully in school life. Learning support at Emmanuel Anglican College is embedded across the College and focuses on identifying and responding to individual needs through practical, targeted strategies delivered in a supportive environment.

Learning support is available across Kindergarten to Year 12, with dedicated teams operating in both the Primary and Secondary schools. These teams work closely with classroom teachers, families and external professionals to ensure that support is purposeful, appropriate and aligned with each student’s learning goals.

Our Approach

We recognise that learning needs vary and that support should be flexible and responsive. Our approach is guided by each student’s individual learning needs and is supported through a range of strategies, including:

  • Integrated Class Support – Learning Support Assistants are timetabled to work in classrooms across all year levels. They support students with curriculum access, task completion and classroom participation. The focus is on helping students remain active members of their class wherever possible.
  • Personalised Plans – For students with diagnosed learning difficulties or disabilities, we develop a Personalised Plan. These plans outline the student’s strengths, areas of need and the adjustments required to support their learning. Plans are developed in consultation with families and reviewed regularly to reflect progress.
  • Small Group Interventions – Small group sessions may be offered to support students in specific areas based on need. This can include support with literacy, numeracy, organisation, or building social confidence. These sessions are flexible and designed to complement what students are learning in class.
  • Literacy Support Programs – Evidence based programs, including Multilit, are utilised to support the development of foundational literacy skills. These programs are delivered across Primary and the junior years of Secondary, depending on student needs.
  • Collaboration with Specialists – For students who are supported by external specialists, such as speech pathologists or occupational therapists, we welcome professional input to help guide school based support. With prior arrangement, these providers may also work with students on campus during school hours.

Supporting Student Progress

The goal of learning support at Emmanuel Anglican College is to assist students in developing the confidence, skills and independence they need to manage their learning effectively. Support is reviewed regularly and adapted as students’ needs change.

Our approach to Learning Support reflects the College’s strategic commitment to inclusive education. By recognising individual needs and working in partnership with families and professionals, we aim to ensure every student is supported to grow in confidence, capability and connection.
